Lose weight running with Jiwok

Post in General, Nutrition, Testimonials

Running is without a doubt one of the best ways to lose unwanted pounds and get fit quick. Why?

Running is reliable: if you’re having an indulgent week you can almost bet that a few less calories and a few more runs the following week will quickly get you back on track. Running can be magic that way.

Running is flexible: you can stop anytime you want to (but your Jiwok coach will encourage you to keep going :-) ).

Running is convenient: no gym fees to pay, just put on your trainers (and other necessary equipment) and off you go.

Running is efficient: a 150-pound person will burn approximately 100 calories per mile when running.

Music increases athletic performance

Post in General, Mp3 Workouts

If you’re a Jiwoker, you know this already; running to a good beat is like dancing to a great song, it makes you feel alive, energetic, and just, well, happy.

In fact, according to Dr. Costas Karageorghis, running can improve athletic performance up to 15%!

This concept is, of course, the essence of Jiwok; to merge music and sport to make exercise fun, (plus we added our own twist by adding a coach’s voice to the beat, to encourage you and enhance performance even more ;-) ). So, why does music have such a positive impact on training?

Shock Absorber is good for the breasts

Post in Gear, General

The above photo may be attracting male attention, but this post is really for the ladies :-)

Why do you need to wear a sports bra?

Whether you run marathons or are just starting to run, you should know any active movement requires maximum support and comfort – for any size breast – to avoid pain and soreness after running (and the dreaded breast sag we would all like to avoid).

Post in General, Health, Nutrition

Don’t be afraid to snack, just be smart about it.  Healthy snacks can satisfy your diet cravings and fill the hunger gaps to avoid over-eating at meals.

However, it is important to have the right snacks at the right time. The food you eat before a workout should be different to what you eat afterwards.

How to run safely with headphones

Post in General

We all know there are some dangers that go with running with headphones, but if you follow these tips and use good old common sense, they shouldn’t stop you from musical motivation.

1) Know your route in advance and be aware of the blind spots.

2) Keep the volume reasonably low. You should be able to hear conversation-level speech as well as the music, and turn it down or pause if you anticipate obstacles in your path.

Keep your tank filled with Hydracoach

Post in Gear, General

Did you know that over 70% of people are chronically dehydrated? We all know we’re supposed to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but most of us don’t nearly reach that number.

And when you exercise, hydration is even more important to maintain proper levels of water in our body for optimum performance, especially in the summertime.

Thirst is a warning mechanism telling you that you are under-hydrated and your body would like more fluid. The sensation of thirst is a loss of 1% of body weight, which means a 10% decrease in physical capacity. Drinking enough water is necessary to be at optimum performance during exercise. You should try to keep topped up with water while exercising – the idea is to drink before you become thirsty to keep those hydration levels topped up.

Post in General, Testimonials

Our testimonial of the week is from Cathy, a Jiwoker with a inspirational success story.

Happy Reading :-)

“5 years ago I started running to get in shape, but I had knee problems and had to stop.

I resumed running slowly, just once a week last September, in order to lose around 6 extra kgs, but to no avail. Fortunately, I continued to find pleasure in running so persevered, but felt there was room for improvement in my form.
