Music increases athletic performance
Post in General, Mp3 Workouts

If you’re a Jiwoker, you know this already; running to a good beat is like dancing to a great song, it makes you feel alive, energetic, and just, well, happy.
In fact, according to Dr. Costas Karageorghis, running can improve athletic performance up to 15%!
This concept is, of course, the essence of Jiwok; to merge music and sport to make exercise fun, (plus we added our own twist by adding a coach’s voice to the beat, to encourage you and enhance performance even more
). So, why does music have such a positive impact on training?

That is why we have teamed up with Sportunes – the leading ‘music for sports’ specialists.
What is Sportunes?

Let’s Move! Dance, Jiwok, or Zumba – just move your body
Post in General, HealthWith summer holidays on the horizon, it’s time to get moving. Why?
- to fit into that bikini
- because we have longer days to be active outside
- to train better for that marathon in September
Yes, these are all good reasons, but even more importantly we need to get moving to be a good example to our younger generation. With the overwhelming epidemic of child obesity reaching unmanageable proportions (obesity rates have tripled over the past three decades), we need to act now.

Motivational Monday song: ‘Moving on Up’ by M People
Post in General, Mp3 WorkoutsEveryone needs a little motivating on Mondays.
Wherever you are the weather should be getting warmer by now (shouldn’t it?), which means the excuses to go outside and run should be getting fewer and far between.
But, if you’re still struggling to don those trainers and need a little push, this song could be just the ticket.
Keeping in line with our retro music selections, we’ve chosen a hit from the 90′s you may remember if you were a disco queen (or king), a Mancunian (as the band is from Manchester), or you may remember it from the hilarious film ‘The Full Monty’ (an american version of the film is set to star Zac Efron which seems, well, bizarre?)

12 Running Songs for the 12 Days of Christmas
Post in General
It is officially 12 Days until Christmas, how are you feeling? Need a boost of motivation to get a few runs in before the feasting begins? Need a Christmas spirit injection as well?
Here at Jiwok we are listening to some upbeat Christmas carols to get in that festive frame of mind, and our musicologists have picked some Christmas songs specifically geared to running and Jiwok’s training programs. (Because everyone runs at their own pace, the bpm range for these songs is between 140 – 180, to cover all bases).
So here’s a list of our favourite funky (and slightly alternative) carols that have a good running beat. This way you get a good workout while giving your Christmas spirit a boost, (feel free to sing out loud while running, to share the love
):

Jiwok Retro Music: Ain’t no Mountain High Enough
Post in General
Music is good for the soul, and it’s good for running as most of you already know.
For a change to the hip-hop beat of most running tunes, I would like to share with you some old songs on my mp3 player that give me a great boost of energy during my Jiwok running workouts: the classic soul of Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: “Ain’t no Mountain High Enough”.
